Bangladesh National Party on Tuesday (Nov 7) announced to hold its "National Revolution and Solidarity Day" rally on Sunday (Nov 12) at Dhaka's Suhrawardy Udyan. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir informed the rescheduling at a press conference held at party's Nayapaltan central office. "We hope that the administration will cooperate in this regard," he said.
Earlier, the party announced that it deferred the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to Nov 11 due to the ongoing 63rd CPA conference.
On Nov 7, 1975 an uprising following a coup catapulted Maj Gen Ziaur Rahman to power. The BNP commemorates the day as "National Revolution and Solidarity Day".
However, Bangladesh Awami League does not recognise the occasion and instead refers to Nov 7 as "Freedom Fighters Massacre Day".
